EARTH PROTECTORS CONFERENCE
Here at the Sustainability Centre have definitely not forgotten our 2020 teacher's Conference.
This conference for primary school educators was held on 28 February 2020. Run by The Sustainability Centre and hosted by Bedales School. It focused on showing how to embed eco-learning across the school years. Presenting schools included Dunhurst, Bedales, Evendons and The South Bank International School. The conference succeeded in bringing together a diverse range of inspiring eco-ideas, with presenting schools providing real examples of eco-learning that has been embedded into their school's curriculum and showcasing the sustainable ideas in action. As well as case studies there were ‘how to’ tips, peer to peer presentations, input from expert environmental educators and pupil participation. We were also delighted to have Ann Finlayson of SEEd giving the keynote speech at the start of the conference. |
Case StudiesThe case studies below were presented at the conference in 2020 by The Southbank School Kensington and Evendons School.
We hope these case studies will inspire both attendees and those who are interested in future conferences. And that the approach of these schools will be of interest to any educator resolved in a commitment to taking an earth protectors role in their school and seeking to embed the learning across the curriculum. |
We know that many of the teachers who attended the Earth Protectors event expressed a desire, commitment and drive to keep protection of the earth high on the school agenda. So we want to remind participants of the inspiring day they took part in and encourage all primary school educators to tap into the "change makers" energy that was generated.
We have got some promised downloads to share here to help keep the momentum going in 2022 and beyond. These are for anyone who wants to embed more planet care learning into their school lessons and who would benefit from seeing how other Primary Schools have tackled the challenge.
The message of the conference was and is 'you are not alone'. As learners return to lessons post lock-down, we hope that nature experiences and planet care learning will be part of a new resolve to ensure good outdoor and indoor eco-learning.

We have drawn the winners of the prize draw and two schools have booked their prize winning visit this year. We would like to announce that these are Grayshott Primary School and Arundel Court Primary Academy School from Portsmouth. We are delighted to be able to offer these two schools a free visit to the Centre in 2022 to continue their earth protectors journey.
We are able to deliver school day trips, residential visits and alternative education programmes and we know that pupils and teachers really appreciate the outdoor activities they take part in.
The practical application element is vitally important so in future we really hope to welcome your school to our site to experience the hands-on eco-learning we provide. This can be a great support for an eco-topic and an introduction for pupils to a more cross curricula eco-learning experience.
