Clean Energy
KS3
Pupils will be led on an informative tour of the site, to see first-hand the ways in which we aim to reduce carbon emissions, save energy and use eco-friendly building materials. This will include learning about our retrofitted lodge with air and ground source heat pumps, photovoltaic solar panels and sheep's wool insulation. Discover what low embodied energy means for a building! We will also see our exciting yurt, woodland hall, pole barn, cobb oven and compost toilets!
This is a great introduction to sustainability as a topic and provides many thought provoking ideas and concepts. Children can explore this further through a class based discussion about renewable energy sources. Take a walk up local Salt Hill, a proposed wind turbine site, to measure wind speed with an anemometer all the while thinking about pros and cons. Finishing off the day with an activity revolved around biomimicry design, how we can learn effectively from nature. |
