Do you need to have a plastic bag when you buy something? Could you take your own shopping bag? Can the item you are buying be bought with less packaging? Could you buy a different brand with packaging that can be recycled? Could you actually use the packaging yourself afterwards? Could you buy local procuce? Could you make the item from thigs you already own? Do you really need the item? If you didn't buy the item how much would you save? Could you grow it yourself?

Do you crave new things or do you own them already? As you go to put something in the bin ask yourself if there is any part of it that you might need to buy in the future.
