The Sustainability Centre is embarking on an exciting new capital building project which will mark the beginning of a new era.
This project will completely transform our old MOD building into an amazing, inspiring sustainable learning centre, which will create:-
How Will We Achieve This ?
The Leaves for Learning Community Fundraising Campaign will be an important part of fundraising efforts with schools, community groups, corporations and the general public getting involved.
Together with applications to Trusts and Foundations; grants from local businesses and support in kind we are confident that we can raise the £1.5 million needed.
Funding the Feasibility Study
A grant was awarded to us by The South Downs National Park which matched funds already raised to enable the feasibility study to go ahead. This looked at the structural integrity of
the building; ; energy management and potential improvements as well the carbon impact of a variety of options.
Why Now ?
This year the Sustainability Centre celebrates its 21st anniversary and is one of the earliest of its kind to provide a broad range of opportunities for outdoor environmental learning programmes and sustainable lifestyle solutions. Our education programmes encourage people into the great outdoors, learning about nature and how to live with a deeper connection to our environment, whilst acknowledging our fragile eco-system and how we can live in harmony with our surroundings. We work with schools, community groups and like-minded organisations from all over the world. The current Teaching and Administration Block is an old 1970s building, which is now at full capacity, inefficient to run and in desperate need of an update.
All The Benefits
The centre is located in a beautiful 55 acre woodland site in the heart of The South Downs National Park and this renovation project will showcase a cutting edge design with high standards of energy management and will provide a leading example of an eco-retrofit design. The New Learning Centre project will create more classrooms and meeting facilities to serve local schools, community groups and businesses. The building project will provide important apprenticeships opportunities in natural building technique and an exemplar eco renovation.
