ABOUT THE workshops
Two willow weaving workshops taught by our friendly tutor, Michelle Clifford. Choose between two half-day courses or perhaps make a day of it, book both and enjoy a delicious lunch at our Beech Cafe? Build your skills in willow weaving and basketry at The Sustainability Centre located the Hampshire South Downs.
Willow wall basket:
Join us on this fun morning course and learn how to make this interestingly-shaped, flat-backed wall basket from sustainable willow. Michelle will show you the willow-weaving techniques needed to produce your own basket. Also, your tutor will explain how to select, grade, dry, store and soak willow in preparation for making baskets so when you've been bitten by the bug, more willow projects can be enjoyed at home. Once hung on the wall, your own basket can be used for displaying plants, storing crafty objects or used in the kitchen for onions or garlic.
Mini willow bark containers:
In the afternoon, learn how to utilise willow bark harvested from our tutor’s own garden. Get engrossed making cute little willow bark containers using a range of methods. Michelle will explain how to harvest, dry, store and prepare willow bark for weaving as well as demonstrating how these skills can be transferred to other suitable materials.
