ABOUT THE COURSE

On this training course in the Hampshire South Downs,  you will learn how to weave a dragonfly in a spiral 'corn dolly' weave in brown willow and how to make a wishing fish with a 'figure of eight' weave. These can be placed outside on sticks or hung up. They make great decorations for adorning the garden, pond or even plant pots.

THE COURSE WILL GIVE YOU

  • Skills in willow weaving
  • Knowledge on how to select suitable materials
  • Understanding of how to grade, dry, store and soak willow

THIS COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR

Those with no previous experience but some manual dexterity, hand strength and patience is required.

WHAT TO BRING/WEAR

Wear old trousers and suitable clothing for the weather. This course will take place outdoors in our Woodland Classroom.
  • Sharp secateurs if you have some

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Louise Arthur specialises in willow weaving and environmental education. She is highly skilled at making baskets from sustainable local willow and foraged hedgerow materials. These natural, biodegradable, little gems reflect the biodiversity of our countryside hedges and range in colour, texture and form. Louise is an excellent teacher who has years of experience running outdoor education sessions with the Forestry Commission and at The Sustainability Centre. As an experienced workshop leader she enjoys sharing her love of willow crafts with adults and children.
