Advanced Knife Skills - Friday 11th July 2025
10:00 - 16:00
Tutor: Nick Ward
This knife skills training course in the Hampshire South Downs will explore how to use a fixed blade knife as a wood craft tool and how to realise both its potential and limitations. Starting at the very basics of knife anatomy we will discuss what makes a suitable knife for woodworking, whittling, forest school or bushcraft. Throughout the day progressive skills will be taught working with both green and seasoned wood. Through gentle guidance and experiential learning, you will become confident and comfortable handling a knife, from basic skills to advanced carving techniques. You will learn how to make several campcraft items, from “feather-sticks” for fire lighting to a fold away bucksaw and most importantly how to keep yourself and others around you safe whilst using cutting tools. We will discuss how to maintain a knife and you will have plenty of time to hone your sharpening skills.
