This one day workshop is an opportunity for teachers, parents, caregivers and education leaders to explore some of the many ways in which permaculture can inspire children, nurture ecoliteracy and open minds to make positive choices for the future. You'll learn ways in which to use green building, energy efficiency, permaculture design, soil, water conservation, forest gardens and much more, to inform and inspire our children. Using permaculture techniques, Morag and Evan will show us how to create a holistic framework for connected learning that is fun, engaging, healthy and transformative.
Permaculture is a way of working with nature to make a better world for us all. It is a design-based approach that helps us to identify the best tools and techniques for each of our own unique circumstances, weaving together the skills our future generations need: thinking skills, people skills, life skills, design skills, problem solving, creativity and innovation. Teachers, parents, caregivers and education leaders. No previous experience of permaculture is necessary but an interest in how nature can educate is a must!
WHAT TO BRING/WEAR
ABOUT THE TUTORSMorag Gamble and Evan Raymond live a permaculture life - and love it. They have been leading permaculture education programs with children of all ages for 25 years - from pre-school children to university students (adults too). They run immersion camps for teens, nature play programs for young children, project-based programs for homeschoolers and unschoolers, edible school garden programs, eco-scholar extension programs in ecological design, permaculture work experience, applied research in community gardens, eco-festival activities for kids and more.
Morag and Evan live in their owner-built home at Crystal Waters Ecovillage, Australia, surrounded by their award-winning permaculture garden. They are educators, designers, advisors, speakers, writers and activists for earthcare, people care and fair share. They are founders of the Permaculture Education Institute, Northey Street City Farm and the Australian City Farms and Community Gardens Network. Morag's Youtube Channel and blog have been accessed by millions and over 1000 people sign up for her free monthly permaculture masterclasses. They both hold Masters of Environmental Education (focussing on Permaculture Education). Morag has also been a scholar at Schumacher College teaching permaculture with biomimicry's Janine Benyus. |
