At the Sustainability Centre UK we are creating a lasting tribute to Bill Mollison – known as the “father of permaculture” – the Tasmanian man who co-founded the global permaculture movement.
The tribute will be in the form of an annual bursary funded by our Charity – the Earthworks Trust, to enable at least one student place to be offered, at no cost to the student, on our Permaculture Design Course every year. It will be called the Bill Mollison Permaculture Bursary.
We offer this out of deep respect and acknowledgement of the important role and inspiration that Permaculture has within our organisational design, site and courses. We are the home of Permaculture Magazine and through a working partnership with them we are connected to the international community of permaculture its ideas and network of real people doing real things.
In offering this bursary we would like inspire others to create a network of bursaries across the globe to reflect the global influence that Bill has had. A power for good seeking to influence real and lasting change.
We offer a variety of courses promoting permaculture practice and principles, and were delighted to welcome students and tutors from around the world last year (2015) to our first social permaculture course with Looby MacNamara, Robin Clayfield, Starhawk, Robina McCurdy and Peter Cow.
We work with schools, community groups and like-minded organisations from all over the world in our beautiful 55 acre woodland site in the heart of Hampshire’s The South Downs National Park.
This year The Sustainability Centre celebrates its 21st anniversary and is one of the earliest of its kind to provide a broad range of opportunities for outdoor environmental learning programmes and sustainable lifestyle solutions. Our education programmes encourage people into the great outdoors, learning about nature and how to live with a deeper connection to our environment, whilst acknowledging our fragile eco-system and how we can live in harmony with our surroundings.
