“ We think we cannot draw or do art or make music because we have been taught that there are standards to be met and these can induce anxiety. By enjoying the process of mindful doodling, drawing and painting without the goal of producing a masterpiece we can play with colour and shape and sound and use them as a meditative tool.”
- Janet

ABOUT THE COURSE

An art and meditation workshop focused on the healing properties of sounds and pattern and the restorative qualities of the natural world. Spend a day focusing on your own wellbeing. We will explore the way experiencing sound and nature can spark our creative responses. The one day course will offer you a chance to connect to your creative and intuitive selves via a series of guided exercises, led by three different practitioners skilled in sound healing, nature-led meditation and mindful art.

We will spend time bathed in sound, time in guided meditation and time in the inspiring natural setting of the centre’s woodland. The workshop will include the opportunity to create a small individual painting to acknowledge the day’s journey with a mindful element that everyone can enjoy. Time will be spent connecting with the natural environment and in experiencing the role that sound can play in relaxation, inner peace, wellbeing and calm.

"Sometimes we need encouragement to access restorative experiences for ourselves. This workshop provides the setting, the tools and the catalyst for making a start or renewing an intention to make that time available in our lives.”

“This course will provide you with techniques for nature connection which will be suitable for beginners. Nature is a wonderful way to top up and reflect and enable you to bring more peace and support into your daily life whether you live in a city or in a rural setting. All are welcome to connect with the inexhaustible inspiration of the natural world”.

ABOUT THE TUTORs

Janet Hammerton is an Artist and Educator with over 20 years’ experience of teaching environmental education and of creating art pieces for sale and for personal enjoyment. She has a BA Hons degree in Textile design. Janet is an energy healer and practices meditation and mindful painting. Enjoying painting, making and creating with colour and form Janet wants to share her enthusiasm and help others to let go of the idea of the end goal of art and instead embrace pattern making, colouring and scribbling as a process and as a mindful activity. Janet is also a Forest School Leader with a firm belief in the power of nature to inspire, heal and connect us to our true human nature.

Jonathon Huet is a forester, horticulturist and environmental teacher. In 1998 he started his initiative called ‘Walk with Trees’ which grew and planted over a thousand trees and many more native wild flowers. His main focus is to bring nature into people’s lives from all backgrounds and persuasions enthusing people with a love of nature whether in a city park or an untouched wilderness. This love for nature has been infused with a keen interest in meditation and an in-depth study of nature traditions. We all are indigenous people with a deep connection to the land which can be found wherever we live. Jonathon’s grounded approach is permeated with his own connection to place drawing from the poetry, story and the traditions of his own culture. Jonathon offers others gentle outdoor meditation enhanced by the works of Classical and Celtic sources.

Sam Britton trained as a Sound Healing Practitioner with The College of Sound Healing and is a sound healer at Sirenity Sound for the Soul. Sam creates the space for people to release from the limitations of the physical body and mind and reach a place of stillness. She has helped people access inner peace by running regular Sound Bath’s, Sound Healing workshops and 1-2-1 sessions since 2011. Sam’s aim is to lull others into a deep relaxation and allow the daily stresses to slip away using instruments such as as singing bowls, Native American Flutes and Hand Pan and also her own voice. Sam leads voice sessions and loves the outdoors believing that the natural environment is key to our development and wellbeing. She enjoys the experience of playing her handmade instruments  alongside the ocean or in the hills!  Sam also has a passion for helping people to connect with their voice and really does believe we can all sing and make beautiful sounds using our unique voices! She loves to lead toning, chanting and singing with groups as it creates a deep connection to ourselves and each other and can be an uplifting and expansive experience.
