The Sustainability Centre is a fascinating example of the successes - and pitfalls - that can accompany a fundamental change in the way we live our lives. For secondary school pupils, it is a rich source of ideas and information, in these areas:

  • Biomass energy and managing woodlands.
  • Photovoltaic panels and solar water heating.
  • Forest Skills and Eco Art.
  • Sustainable buildings.
  • Green tourism, in our hostel and on our camp site.
  • Food and farming.
  • Green burials, and management of the new woodland.

Our curriculum linked programme offers a range of hands on activities covering a wide range of aspects of sustainability.

Activities include making an earth oven from clay and sand; building an earth bag archway; building solar powered models; a farm tractor trailer tour over the hills of the South Downs; making shelters in the woods and ephemeral art works with natural materials.

Curriculum links to topics in Geography, Science, Art, Design & Technology, ICT and Citizenship also make this trip worthwhile. Please contact for further information if you would like to book a day programme or overnight stay. See Teachers' Pack for programme and prices.
