Schools & Education
Sustainability is now a topic that schools are keen to address, both inside the classroom and through the inspiration of organised visits outside the classroom. The Sustainability Centre offers your school a choice of a day trip or a residential visit in which we aim to inspire your pupils. By taking a diverse approach to this complex topic we hope to provide you with ideas for Eco work back at school and show pupils some eco friendly ideas in action on our site that are thought provoking and sometimes unexpected.
We explore current environmental issues and suggest possible solutions to give your pupils an idea of how they can take action at home or in the school grounds and there are plenty of hands on activities to keep pupils engaged throughout their visit.
Bringing your pupils to stay in our Lodge on a residential trip can be a particularly valuable experience for the class, allowing more time for activities at our site and giving you the chance to take trips to other sites within the South Downs National Park. You can plan a trip to give pupils a holistic view of sustainability or chose a programme that explores the Park as part of the South Downs Experience. With this longer stay children can fully explore our 55 acre woodland and find time to explore options for team building or for a one night camp out with bush craft activities. A longer stay can be especially valuable in developing team work, building self esteem and gaining confidence in the outdoor environment.
Our experienced Education Team are all Forest School trained, with a wide range of expertise. They are happy to answer any queries you may have. To find out more about the team see the Meet the Team section of our website.
"Our year 3 pupils grew in self esteem; they felt a real sense of achievement at the end of the visit. It was a fantastic experience...all very positive. They felt cared for and safe the centre staff were outstanding!" Kate Heffer, Headteacher of St Mary's Primary School, Bentworth.
The Centre is the proud owner of a Green Tourism Business Scheme Gold Award and our education programme is County approved.
